Makerere University attempted to create an Institute of Psychology as a single commonhome for psychology teaching and practice in 1973. The first location in School of Education under Professor Durojaiye in 1975 but remained a department. A new site was proposed in 1987 when the School of Education was planned to move to Kyambogo.

The idea of Psychology  becoming an institute was revived in 1990 and achieved in 1997 but became operational in 1999. The desire has always been to create an environment for nurturing consensus on “professionalizing

The School of Psychology welcomes it’s past, present and future stake holders to this website. This site provides information about Psychology as a discipline in Uganda, the student population, courses offered, projects managed, partnerships, and staff capacity. For long, the discipline of Psychology had not been popular in Uganda. Most people did not know what Psychology was all about.


To attract and train students into market resilient psychologists, that can address local,regional,and global challenges through their research and intervention skill.
